6.40 Hypertension

Hypertension is defined as a sstolic pressure above to 140 rnmHg and a diastolic pressure above 90 rnmHg at a atate of rest. Clinically,it is divided into Primary hypertension and secondary hypertension.
(1) Flaming-up of liver fi re

Select points on the liver and Galibidder meridians as main points,The reducing method of needling is used.

Fengchi, Taiyang, and Taichong
(2) Yin deficiency and hyperactivity of Yang
[Treatment]
Select points on the Kidney and liver merithans as main points. The even method of nccdhng is used.

(3) Deficiency of both Yin and Yang

Select points on the Ren. , Spleen and Saomach meridians as main points. The reinforcing method is used and moxibustion is applicable at the same time.

6.41 Trigeminal Neyralgia
This is transient paroxyniaI severe pain on the facial region traversed by the trigeminal nerve- Clinically the 2th and 3th branches of the trigeminal nevere are often involved. The disease can be divided into two types; primary and secondary.

[Treatment]
Combination of local and distal points is recommended. The reducing method of needling is generally applied. The reinforcing method is used when there is Qi deficiency.
[Prescription]
Forehead: Zanzhu, Sizhukong, Yangbai Touisri, and Flauxi.
Upper maxillary area: Yingriang, Sibai, Quanliao, Heliao, Hegu.
Lower maxillary area Xiguan, flaying, j lathe, Yifinzg and Neiting.
Wind-cold with phlegm: Fenghi Waluan and Fenglong.
Wind-heat with phlegm: Shangyzng, Quchi, and FenglonR.
Liver fire from depression: Xingjian, Xiaxi and Yemen.
Qi deficiency and blood stasis: Guanyuan, Zusanli, Sanyin-jiao, Geshu and Ganshu.

6.42 Facial Paralysis
Ficial paralysis is called as deviation of the mouth and eyes, i.e.
paralysis of the facial nervus. It occurs in patients of any age, but mostly around the age of 21-40. Clinically, it is divided into two patterns: peripheral facial paralysis and central paralysis. Peripheral facial paralysis is much more common than central paralysis It is manifested by flaccidity of facial muscles. For the treatment for deviation of the mouth and eyes due to wind stroke refer to the treatment introduced in th5 section.
[Treatment]
Select points on the foot and hand-Yangming meridians as main points and those on the foot and hand-Shaong meridians as secondary. n the early stage, the reducing method is used, But in late stage when there is manifestation of deficieney the reinforcing method and moxibustion are applied.

6.43 Cervical Sprnidylopa thy
Cervical spondvlopathy refers to pathogenic change of the cervical vci-tebrae and soft tissues surrouncbng them such as intervertebral disks, yellow ligaments1 duramater and so on, resulting in the nerve root, spinal cord the vertebral artery and the sympathetic nerve is Pressed or provoked, and occuring a series of symptoms.

(1) Obstruction in the meridian and collaterals

Select points on the Thiynrg and Du meridians as main points. The reducing method of needling is used.
[Prescription]
Tainzhu, Bailao,Dazthui and Houxi
[Modification with various syndromes]
Invasion of wind and cold: Fengchi Waiguan and Lieqve.
Stagnation of qi and blood: Shenzhui, Geshu and Yinxi.
(2) Deficiency of the liver and kidncy

Select the back S/iu points as main points. The reinforcing method of needling is advised.

6-44 Peripheral Shoulder Arthritis
Peripheral shoulder arthritis refers to degenerative and inflammatory lesion of the peripheral soft tissues of the shoulder joint. It occurs in peopie after middle age. It may be termed ¡°frozen houlder¡±or 50 ¡°year-old shouldert¡±? It more frequently attacks one sdc of thc shoulder.
The combination of local points and distal points is recommended. The reducing method of needling is used. In combination with cupping and wanrm-needling are applicable in some cases.

Jianyu, Jianliao, Jianneiling, Ashi, Tiaokou, Yangglingquan

6.45 Sciatica
Sciatica refers to pain along the route of the sciatic nerve and It¡¯s within distributed region. It occure in middle aged people, more frequetly in males. Clinically, it is divided into two patterns: primary and secondary.

6.46 Irregular Menstruation
Irregular menstruation refers to changes such as length of mense period, the amount of blood and colour of blood during the menstrumacn, and it is combined with other responsive symptonis. It is separated into earlier mense,delayed mense and irreguiar mense clinically according to different a ecornp aying syrnptons.

Acupuncture is used only for earlier mense. While both acupuncture and moxibustion is used for detayed mense and irregular mense.

This disease indicates not perodical uterine bleeding in women. Metrorrhagia refers to sudden onset of large amounts of bleeding, while metrostlxis refers to chronic, little amounts of bleeding.
