[Syniptoms] Badly aversion to cold, mind fever, anhidrosis, headache, bodily pain or malaise, nasal obstruction, coarse voice, cough, sneezing watery nasal discharge, itching throat, thin whitish sputum, non-thirstiness or preference for hot drinks, normal tongue with thin whitish fur, float and tense pulse.

(2)Cold due to wind-heat
[Symptoms] Marked fever, slight aversion to wind-cold, sweating, distending pain in the head ,cough with little thick yeilowish sputum, dry or reddened or painful throat, nasal obstruction with thick yellowish discharge, thirstiness with preference for drinks; normal tongue or reationship of tongue with dry thin yellowish fur,floailng and rapid pulse.
[Main points of dilferentiation] Marked fever, slight aversion to wind-cold, sweating, thick nasal discharge, sore throat.
[Treatment] Dispel the pathogen in the superfictes and clear away heat from the lung with drugs of acrid taste and cool nature.
(3) Cold due 1o summer-heat and dampness
[Symptoms] Fevcr,slight aversion to wind, little sweat, lassitude or pain of the body, dizziness and disteriding pain of the beat thick nassal discharge .cough with thick sputum , mouthful greasiness, thi rstiness without preference for drinks, vexation, chest fullness and nausea, scanty dark urine; thin yellowish and greasy fur, softfloating and rapid pulse.
[Main points of differentiation It occurs in summer manifested as fever and lassitude. dizziness and distention of the head, vexation and nausea.
[Treatment] Relieve exterior syndrome by clearing away summer-heat and dampness.

(4)Cold due to deficiency of Qi
[Symptoms] Marked aversion to cold , mid fever, anhidrosis or contnriously sppntancous perspiranon,lassieude and soreness of the lxdy,weak cough with low voice and slight dyspnea which are to be aggravated on slight exertion;pale and large tongue with thin whidsh fur weak pulse.
[Main points of differentiation] Generaf deficiency consitution, Marked aversion to cold , mild fever weak cough, lassitude, feeble pulse.
[Treatment] Strengthen the body resistance to eliminate pathogenic factors.
[Recipe] Shen Su Yin or Yu Ping Feng San
(5)Cold due to deficient yin
[SvrnpturnsJ Fever, slight aversion to wind-cold, less sweat, dizzuiess,dry mouth and dysphoria,dry cough with little sputurn.red dened tongue with little fur, bready and rapid Pulse. [Main points of differentiation] Fever with little sweat , dysphoria arid dry cough, reddened. tongue with Little fur.

(6) Epidemic cold
[Symptoms] Abrupt aversion to cold with tretnhling and high fever if serious, general aching pain,acute headache, flushed cheeks, red eyes,lassitude and lack of strength,corigestion of throat or sometimes with anorexia ,constipation cough or slight cough with are nassal obsruction or dischargr; rapid pulse.
[Main points of differcntiaton] Epidemic and abrupt occurrence manifested as aversion to cold and high Lever acuTe headache and bodily pain, lack of strength, mild respiratory symptoms but severc constitutional ones.
[Treatmentl Clear away heat and toxic material.

6.13 Acupuncture Treatment
A common cold is a frequently seen exogenous disease occurring all the year round, but especially in winter and spring when there are sudden uhinges in the weather.
(1) Wind-cold
[Treatment]
Select poimas mainly from the Hand- Taiyin, Yangming and Foot- Taiyang, meridians, The reducing nicthod of needling is used. It is applicable to apply moxibusion.

Diseases having cough as the chief manifestation are classified into two types-one due to exopathic factors, the other internal impairment.
Exopathogen: short course, inclusive of course, heal, wind and dryness syndromes, and in association with exterior syndromes as fever or aversion to cold.
Internal impairnient: long course, inclusive of sihenia, asthenia, cold and heat syndromes, showing various manifestations due to different diseased organs.

(3)Impairment of the lung by wind and dryness pathogens
[Symptoms] Dry cough or irritated cough, itching and dry throat , and little thick sputum with spitting difficulty or blood streaks in association with dry nose and lips,and even chest pain after coughing, nasal obstruetion,and headache with mild fever and chills; reddened tip of tongue with drythin yel.bwish fur, thready and somewhat rapid pulsc.
[Main points of differentiation] Dry cough, itching throat little thick sputum with spitting difficulty or blood streaks.
